Rural Fire Service

Last modified: July 5, 2006 - 1:05 PM

There are 24 brigades in the Parkes Shire with six of these being village brigades. These brigades are usually the first call for any reported incidents within their area due to there being a readily available crew at all hours capable of a quick response.

These brigades are generally better trained and supplied withmore equipment and generally better vehicles. Some of the training includes Village Fire Fighting, Crew Leader and some specialty training. The other brigades are more rural brigades and respond as they can due to various farming practices. Members also assist with incidents in adjoining shires as well as other parts of the state. Parkes Rural Fire Brigades respond to approximately 70 incidents a year with these including house and grass fires, motor vehicle accidents and assistance to the State Emergency Service following severe storms.
