Parkes Shire Council facilitates and coordinates a number of public exhibitions and cultural programs each year for the enjoyment of our community and visitors.

Parkes Library Event Calendar

11 April to 4 May - WASTE TO ART ANNUAL COMPETITION AND EXHIBITION
Waste to Art is a community exhibition showcasing imaginative works made from reused and recyclable waste materials. The aim is to challenge peoples' perceptions about 'rubbish' and to celebrate the reuse and recycling of waste through arts and crafts.

The exhibition will be officially opened on Tuesday April 11 at 6pm. Please RSVP if you wish to attend for catering purposes on 6861 2309.

20 April - LOADED DOG
Splash Theatre Company presents Henry Lawson’s THE LOADED DOG.

An explosive yarn about three gold miners & their overgrown pup, Tommy. When the dog steals a stick of explosives & runs past the fire, it ignites & leads to mayhem and chaos. Dramatic performance presented by Splash Theatre Company & Chris John.

27 April  - OUR SOLAR SYSTEM

What have we learnt about our Solar System and how it has changed over time? This talk, by John Sarkissian, OAM, Operations Scientist at the CSIRO Parkes Radio Observatory, will include a discussion of new planetary systems discovered around other stars and the Parkes Telescope’s contribution to our advancement in knowledge. The talk will also touch on the latest Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI) research at Parkes.

May and June - CAMERA CRAFT COURSE

Presenter: Photographer Denise Yates

Learn how to shoot amazing images, understand light, composition, ISO, Aperture and Shutter Speeds. Take your pictures to the next level by learning camera control and photographic skills. Six, two hour workshops.

5 to 11 May - PARKES PAINTING GROUP EXHIBITION

Annual exhibition held in the Coventry Room.

18 May - LAW WEEK EVENT - CYBER SAFETY

Law Week, a nationwide initiative to promote community awareness and understanding of the law, is being held from 15-21 May 2017.

Parkes Library is hosting a Legal Aid NSW event:

‘Cyber safety for older people’ - This presentation outlines common on-line scams, how to identify them and provides  ractical tips on protecting yourself online.  It also covers how to report scams to authorities.

10 June - RANDOM WEAVING WORKSHOP

Presenter: Artist Lanny Mackenzie

Lanny is returning to Parkes to hold her Random Weaving/Free Flow workshop. The versatile weaving method can be used to make a variety of forms ranging from small delicate vessels to bigger baskets. Natural and recycled materials are used.
