Parkes Library Exhibition Event Calendar

1  to 24 March - Gavin Coote

Contemporary artist Gavin is a journalist in a country town, but that's just half of what he gets up to. Gavin has always integrated some form of creativity into his life, having spent his early years drawing tractors, harvesters and windmills that dotted the landscape of the farm where he spent the first half of his childhood.

Gavin's quirky and surreal paintings go on exhibition at Parkes Library on 1 March, with an official opening being held on Friday 3 March at 6pm. Please RSVP on 6861 2309 if you would like to attend the official opening. Gavin will be in attendance to have a beer and talk art.

24 March to 6 April - Australian Inspiration

Before they became celebrated Australian icons, the koala and waratah left early colonists almost ‘star struck’ by their unique appearance!

Explore how the koala and the waratah were first depicted over 200 years ago, and how they have evolved over time to quickly become national icons at a State Library of NSW travelling exhibition at Parkes Library.

Australian Inspiration will not only tell the evolving story of our national icons, but also showcase the role of the State Library’s extraordinary collections in arts and design.

11 April to 4 May - Waste to Art annual competition & exhibition.
Waste to Art is a community exhibition showcasing imaginative works made from reused and recyclable waste materials. The aim is to challenge peoples' perceptions about 'rubbish' and to celebrate the reuse and recycling of waste through arts and crafts.

Entries close 1pm on Monday 10 April 2017 - Entry Form, Terms and Conditions.

The exhibition will be officially opened on Tuesday April 11 at 6pm. Please RSVP if you wish to attend for catering purposes on 6861 2309.

21 April - Loaded Dog
Henry Lawson's most popular comic story! An explosive yarn about three gold miners and their overgrown pup, Tommy. When the dog steals a stick of explosives and then runs past the fire, it ignites and leads to mayhem and chaos. Presented by Splash Theatre Company and Chris John.

5 to 11 May - Parkes Painting Group
