AirVenture proves the sky’s the limit for Parkes

Buckle your seatbelts and return your chairs to the upright position: AirVenture Australia is making the final approach and is ready to touchdown at Parkes Regional Airport this weekend, from 20-22 September.

The premier three-day aviation expo is expected to attract hundreds of aircraft and thousands of visitors, with arrivals coming from near and far to enjoy everything aviation.

There will be plenty to see and do whatever your flight of fancy, with trade exhibitions, workshops, and career expos - all with a strong underlying STEM focus to prove that 'aviation is achievable'. For those who prefer high-flying action, a number of airshows will provide exhilarating entertainment for the entire family.

Parkes Shire Councillor and Chair of Economic Development - Airport Sub Committee Alan Ward said he is proud that the Parkes Regional Airport was chosen to host AirVenture.

"As a centrally-located regional airport with first-class facilities we are perfectly placed to host Australia's leading aviation spectacular."

"With Council's expertise in tourism events and the recent airport expansion, Parkes Regional Airport really is ready for take-off," Cr Ward continued.

"Hosting major events such as AirVenture in Parkes all adds up to building a robust and diverse visitor economy for the Shire" said Cr. Ward.

Visitors are encouraged to explore all Parkes has to offer. Parkes many cafes and restaurants cater for a wide range of appetites, and our retail outlets and boutique stores offer local produce or unique gifts. Or simply enjoy a stroll along Clarinda Street to appreciate some vibrant street art.

For those who would like a cultural experience, the Henry Parkes Centre located on the northern side of town is an ideal destination to explore the many facets of Parkes. The tourism complex incorporates the Parkes Visitor Information Centre as well as four museums.

The Parkes Motor Museum and The King's Castle Elvis Exhibit adjoin the Visitor Information Centre and one pass gains entry to both of these impressive collections, allowing ticket holders to experience Elvis all year round.

A separate admission gains you access to the Henry Parkes Museum and Antique Machinery Collection featuring exhibits from traditional family history collections and agricultural machinery and equipment, showcasing a bygone era.
