The Parkes Central Business District (CBD) is an energetic and enterprising business centre that serves a large regional catchment in Central NSW. Parkes Shire Council has demonstrated a long term commitment to the growth and development of the Parkes CBD.
The aim has been to encourage other stakeholders to participate in the process and provide support to businesses to become more involved in the plan. This approach has the greatest chance of gaining widespread support and assistance from the business community.
The CBD Main Street Vibrancy Strategy represents the latest phase of planning to the town centre, with an integrated land-use, transport and urban design study being rolled-out throughout the 2015/16 financial year. The strategy engages with stakeholders to develop new ideas and urban renewal projects to make the centre more attractive to a range of customers.
The Parkes CBD Vibrancy Strategy process has involved extensive community engagement through the public exhibition of the CBD Issues Paper in November 2015, Inquiry-by-Design Workshops in February 2016 and the public exhibition of the Parkes CBD Main Street Vibrancy Strategy in May 2016. More than 100 community members were consulted providing very positive feedback regarding the strategy.
In July 2018, the Federal Government announced $4.2 million in funding under the Building Better Regions Fund towards the $8.5 million Main Street Revitalisation Project and Cooke Park Multipurpose Centre.
