The Prime Minister, state and territory Premiers and Chief Ministers met on 24 March 2020 as the National Cabinet to implement further guidelines to help reduce the spread of COVID-19. Following the meeting new measures were announced which includes further restrictions for funeral services in Australia.
Commencing midnight 25 March 2020 the following restrictions apply to all funerals; families mourning loves ones are limited to having no more than 10 persons at funerals, and the 1 person per 4 square metre rule applies.'
As per these new guidelines and the Prime Minister urging Australians not to congregate in groups or areas where a large number of people are in one place can increase the risk of spreading viruses, these guidelines apply for both indoor and outdoor funerals.
Parkes Shire Council understands this is an extremely difficult time for all our community and especially those tragically impacted by these measures. These provisions have been applied to ensure that the health, safety and well-being of our Shire residents and families is paramount.
These measures will take place from midnight, Wednesday, 25 March, 2020.
