Council’s Infrastructure Director named Legend of Water

Parkes Shire Council's Director Infrastructure, Andrew Francis, was bestowed with legendary status, being named one of three Legends of Water by the Australian Water Association (AWA) at an industry event last week.

The AWA Legends of Water recognises the achievements of water industry leaders who have not only been committed to creating a more sustainable water future but have dedicated their careers to promoting the importance of water in their respective fields.

Parkes Shire Council's Mayor, Cr Ken Keith OAM said the honour was well deserved.

"Andrew has worked tirelessly to improve our water servicing, and helmed the $100 million integrated water infrastructure upgrades that have delivered new water and wastewater treatment plants, a recycled water scheme, and strengthened our raw water supplies, which has certainly put Parkes in good stead during the current drought," Cr Keith said.

"Andrew's vision is broad and far reaching. His commitment to long-term sustainability and fostering a cohesive team ensures Council achieves maximum results while remaining cost-effective."

"Andrew recognises the importance of our water supply as an economic activator, and is committed to strengthening our long-term water security, not just for Parkes, but the whole region," Cr Keith added.

Andrew Francis also serves as Director and Chair of the Central NSW Councils’ Water Utilities Alliance. He is a strong advocate for collaborative alliances as a model for the delivery of Local Water Utility services by Local Government to communities in regional NSW.
