Celebrate 60 years of ‘The Dish’!

60 Years of the Parkes radio telescope – Junior Design Challenge

October 31, 2021, marks the 60th Anniversary of the opening of the CSIRO Parkes Radio Telescope. Affectionately known as ‘The Dish’, the Telescope has played an important role in our understanding of the universe, space exploration and significant events, such as the 1969 Moon landing. To celebrate 60 years of ‘The Dish’ the Parkes Shire Library Marramarra Makerspace, in collaboration with the CSIRO Parkes Radio Telescope team, is hosting a Design Challenge!

Using the CSIRO Parkes Radio Telescope as inspiration, entrants are invited to design their own Radio Telescope. It could be baked goods, garden art, a sculpture, a Dish made from recyclable things – get your thinking caps on!

You will be judged on your idea, planning and the work itself. You can enter as an individual or a team.
