Draft Local Strategic Planning Statement goes on public exhibition
Parkes Shire residents are being encouraged to help guide future growth and development across the region, with the Draft Parkes Shire Local Strategic Planning Statement (LSPS) now on public exhibition.
The Draft LSPS identifies Council's 20-year vision for land use planning in the Parkes Shire, setting out planning priorities and actions to achieve this vision, and the means to monitor and report on the delivery of the actions identified. The document itself does not propose any changes to land use zoning but intends to set the future direction for planning in Parkes Shire.
Director Planning and Environment, Brendan Hayes said "the draft Parkes Shire LSPS outlines how growth and change will be managed into the future whilst maintaining and enhancing our strong and diverse economy, areas of environmental and heritage value, as well as the country lifestyle and character."
"Community feedback is a key ingredient in completing the LSPS and setting the priorities for the next 20 years, so we encourage residents to join the conversation during the exhibition period."
In 2018, the NSW Department of Planning and Environment announced that all councils in NSW would be required to prepare a LSPS for their local government area - providing a link between the priorities identified in their relevant regional planning polices into specific land-use planning actions.
In light of recent announcements of nationally-significant infrastructure and development projects such as the Inland Rail, Newell Highway upgrade and Northparkes Mines Expansion, the Draft Parkes Shire LSPS documents the main land-use planning actions required to take advantage of these development and optimally position Parkes Shire for growth, while preserving the important cultural, biodiversity and special charter attributes.
The key themes identified in the draft LSPS include:
- Connecting the Central West to the World
- Supporting Our Needs, Preserving What's Important
- Accommodating Residential Growth and Development
- Growing Our Economy.
The Draft Parkes Shire LSPS can be viewed at Council's Administration Centre or via the flipbook below which can also be download.
Submissions close on Friday 29 May at 5pm.
