Parkes Shire Council Mayor Cr Ken Keith OAM has been elected as the Chair of the Country Mayors Association of NSW (CMA).
The CMA represents almost 70 rural and coastal councils across New South Wales, the equivalent of about three quarters of the state in land mass, proving to be a formidable force in advocating for local government and issues that affect their communities.
Parkes Shire Council General Manager Kent Boyd congratulated Cr Keith on his election as Chair of the Country Mayors Association. "It is great to see Cr Keith recognised by his peers for his contribution through his election."
Cr Keith expressed that he felt honoured to take on the role of Chair. "It is a wonderful privilege and I look forward to carrying on the good work of the previous Chair Katrina Humphries, the Mayor of Moree Council. I am proud to be working with other driven country Mayors and to be a part of a group that supports each other and our communities."
The CMA allows local government from rural and regional NSW to come together to discuss issues of specific interest, to areas outside the major metropolitan centres as well as looking at the bigger picture of the whole local government sector within the State.
Some of the key priorities for the CMA is looking at converting waste to energy, improving roads, attracting country doctors and investing in new technologies.
