The Parkes Skate Park Expansion is one of eight Parkes Shire projects that has been successful in the third round of the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund (SCCF).
This project will see an extension to the already very popular Parkes Skate park and installation of lighting enabling the skate park to be used at night.
The Parkes Skate Park provides local youth with a free facility and facilitates friendships across socioeconomc groups and age brackets as well as enabling opportunity for 'safe' risk taking and skill development. Now an Olympic-recognised sport, the Parkes Skate Park already hosts regular events and competitions, and this project will further support these and allow for use over longer hours, especially in the extreme heat of Parkes during the summer months.
The $400 million Stronger Country Communities Fund is part of the NSW Government’s $1.7 billion Regional Growth Fund, which is being invested in local programs and infrastructure that improve the lives of people living in regional NSW.
