Parkes Shire is growing and we have recently secured funding for an estimated $60M of State, Commonwealth and Council funding to secure a major upgrade to the water infrastructure to allow us to collect, store, clean and distribute water to meet future demand from our residents, commercial and industrial customers.

The Parkes Water Security Program comprises 10 separate packages of construction and implementation works which will provide a boost to our local economy. The funding deeds for the water projects include a requirement to source 50% local business and services as part of the project delivery model.

The procurement for 10 construction projects will start in October 2022 and continue through 2023, with numerous trade packages and opportunities for local businesses to benefit. There are several trade packages for local and regional candidates to submit tenders including Earthworks, Quarry Materials, Pipe Supply and Install, Buildings, Roads, SCADA and Controls, Electrical, Fencing, Landscaping, Bore Drilling and Bore Casing.

Contractors from outside the Parkes Shire and local and regional sub-contractors will be required to use local service providers and include local business services in work package tender submissions. Contractor staff will require a range of services including vehicle servicing, hospitality and catering, accommodation, cleaning and material suppliers.

Council is now seeking information from the local business community to develop a register of local businesses that will be shared with contractors and sub-contractors as part of the tender process for the water security projects.
