The Parkes CBD is the community's most important civic space as it is a focal point for social, economic and cultural activity.
The main street sets the tone, identity and personality of a community, and makes a town memorable. It also forms the base for a strong retail sector and reflects civic interest and community pride.
The Parkes Main Street Revitalisation will re-develop southern Clarinda Street with footpath upgrades, lighting and smart technology, street furniture and green areas to feed into Cooke Park to the new Multipurpose Centre.
By improving the amenity and aesthetic of lower Clarinda Street, Council aims to attract investment, visitation and local spend.
The project will be carried out in stages, with an expected completion date of March 2020. During the construction stages, pedestrian and vehicle access will be accommodated as best as reasonably practicable.
The project is proudly co-funded by the Australian Government under the Building Better Regions Fund and Parkes Shire Council.
Works schedule is subject to change. To allow for the work to be undertaken, a number of temporary changes to traffic and pedestrian conditions will be implemented at times throughout the construction process.
The community and affected businesses will be advised of these changes in advance by way of public notice, and signage where necessary.
