It’s time to get making! NetWaste and Parkes Shire Council are collaborating to host the annual Waste 2 Art Competition and Exhibition for 2021.

Waste 2 Art’s aim is to challenge perceptions about ‘rubbish’ and to celebrate the reuse and recycling of waste through arts and crafts. Waste 2 Art provides an innovative approach to waste education, invites schools and community groups to take up the challenge and create a new life for materials that would otherwise have been thrown away.

Manager Cultural, Education & Library Services, Kerryn Jones said, "This exhibition and competition gives aspiring and professional artists the chance to explore and share their waste reduction messages whilst showcasing their artistic ability. The 2021 theme is Aluminium and Steel Cans, but entries created using any type of material normally considered waste are welcomed."

The Waste 2 Art Community Art Competition and Exhibition is open to all community members, artists and schools who currently reside in the NetWaste region. If you are outside of the Parkes Shire, contact your local council to find out more.

"The local competition entries will be on display in the Coventry Room within the Parkes Library & Cultural Centre from Tuesday 18 May until Friday 11 June 2021," added Kerryn.

The Outback Arts Gallery in Coonamble will be hosting the regional exhibition in July 2021, featuring the winners from the local competitions in the NetWaste region.

Entries are now open - to enter, head to or call into Council's Administration Office to pick up an entry form in person. Entries close Friday 30 April 2021.
