Food Standards

Compliance with the NSW Food Authority regulations for temporary trading.

A temporary event is any occasion which is of limited duration or periodic in nature and where food is sold to consumers from a temporary structure or vehicle, such as fairs, festivals, markets and shows.

The NSW Food Act 2003 (the Act) and the Food Standard Code (the Code) provide information on basic requirements of selling food at temporary events, such as power supply and waste disposal, and suggest ways to maintain food safety.

The NSW Food Authority has prepared a Food Handling Guideline for Temporary Events.

Temporary trading approval under Section 68 of the Local Government Act 1993 may also be required to establish any fair, market, festival, carnival, community market, or similar function on Council owned land.

Adequate arrangements shall be made for the storage and daily or more frequent removal of garbage generated inside and outside the food stall.
