Recreational Waterbodies - Drought Management Plans

Ongoing consultation

Parkes, Forbes and Lachlan Shire Councils have received joint funding from the Future Drought Fund to prepare drought management plans for key recreational water bodies in the region. This was one of a number of actions identified by the Parkes, Forbes and Lachlan Regional Drought Resilience Plan, available here.

This survey seeks to understand community insights for how recreational waterbodies are used across the three Shires, the impacts of drought on the recreational use of these waterbodies, as well as environmental and economic impacts, and how the management of waterbodies during times of drought can be accommodated.

The term ‘recreation’ includes all water-based activities (swimming, fishing, boating etc), sporting activities (walking, running etc) but also includes picnics, relaxation such as reading a book on the banks of the river, playing, socialising with friends, camping, birdwatching, photography.
