Project Updates

March 2024

Council wishes to advise access to businesses on Southern East Street is now from the May Street end, this has been temporarily modified due to the ongoing construction of the Bridge Replacement.

Council crews are currently working on the southern end of East Street at the intersection of Woodward Street, where it is now closed.

Please plan your routes accordingly and exercise caution at all times.

February 2024

Bridge construction and road works have been delayed due to utility relocation.

The road closure will be extended until Tuesday 30 April 2024, and will be undertaken in the following stages:

Stage 1: East Street will be closed between May Street and the property entrance of 2a East Street. Please see map(PDF, 2MB).

Stage 2: Sealing works will be undertaken from the property entrance of 2a East Street to the intersection of Woodward and East Street. Please see map(PDF, 837KB).

The road will be under a full closure during this period to expedite the construction period. Pedestrian access along East Street will be maintained throughout the duration of the project.

Residents and businesses are requested to exercise caution at all times when around the work area and to follow the instructions of Traffic Control staff on site.

Project Background

The East Street Bridge upgrade involves the following works:

  • Constructing a new bridge to replace failing units
  • Raising the bridge to reduce restriction to waterflows
  • Formalising the drainage channel to improve flow conditions and reduce overtopping and maintenance
  • Improving drainage impacts to neighbouring properties through kerb and gutter works
  • Widening the narrow pavement to be consistent with pavement widths on northern section
  • Rehabilitating failed and rough pavement
  • Relocating four water mains impacted by the culvert widening
  • Relocating one sewer main impacted by the culvert widening
