To reduce flooding in the Parkes CBD area during storm events, Council is constructing a new detention structure, known as Croaker Basin. This basin will capture and manage overland flow from the surrounding catchment to mitigate the flooding in the CBD during storm events. Surface works will also be carried out to direct water into the new basin. These works include improvements at the entry points to NorthParkes Oval and Pioneer Oval, as well as the reshaping of the access road at Spicer Oval. In addition, roadworks on Victoria Street will redirect stormwater away from the CBD and towards Bogan Street. This will support further drainage works at the intersections of Victoria and Currajong Streets and Victoria and Clarinda Streets.

These works will form the first stage of works resulting from a storm development control plan for this urban area and will significantly improve the localised flood protection for this area and help reduce the impact on the local drainage system.
