Parkes Shire Council has secured $133,220 from Transport for NSW Maritime’s Boating Infrastructure for Communities Grants Program and will co-contribute $52,480 towards the $185,700 project to deepen Lake Endeavour’s launch channel.

This upgrade will make launching non-motorised watercraft safer, easier, and more accessible for everyone at Lake Endeavour – the Shire’s only waterbody open for recreational use.

Project benefits

Deepening the launch channel will:

  • Improve safety for recreational and sporting groups, including dragon boat paddlers and people with mobility restrictions.

  • Enhance fishing opportunities, with better access for non-motorised craft and the potential to host fishing competitions.

  • Attract more visitors and events, boosting local tourism and the economy.

Building on recent upgrades

This project builds on the significant improvements already delivered at Lake Endeavour, including:

  • a 90-metre pontoon

  • wheelchair accessible path

  • car park and toilets

  • sandy foreshore and swimming area

  • free Wi-Fi and telecommunications for Wi-Fi calls

These upgrades have already made Lake Endeavour a popular day-trip destination, earning the Keep Australia Beautiful Liveable Town Award (Population Category C) in 2024.

Supporting recreation and community

Lake Endeavour is regularly stocked with Golden Perch and Murray Cod fingerlings, and Council is keen to encourage fishing as a key recreational activity. The new launch channel will make it easier for non-motorised craft to safely access the water and will support community events centred around fishing.

The project will also benefit the Parkes Dragon Boat Club, improving safety for weekly training sessions and supporting their growth as a local sporting group.

Project timeline

The launch channel upgrade is expected to be completed by May 2026.
