Parking Regulations
Parkes Shire Council is committed to keeping our streets safe, accessible, and enjoyable for all road users. While timed parking fines are not commonly issued, our team actively responds to community complaints and safety concerns involving illegally parked or obstructive vehicles.
You may receive an infringement if your vehicle is:
- A heavy or long vehicle parked in a built-up area for more than one hour
- Parked on a footpath or nature strip
- Parked in a 'No Parking' or 'No Stopping' zone
- Parked within 10 metres of an intersection
We encourage all residents and visitors to park responsibly and follow NSW road rules to support safety and amenity across the Parkes Shire.
Parking Fines Reporting
In accordance with the Fines Amendment (Parking Fines) Act 2024 and the Fines Amendment (Parking Fines) Regulation 2025, Parkes Shire Council is required to publicly report on parking fines issued each quarter. Quarterly reports are available in the tabs at the bottom of this page.
Background on Legislative Changes
The NSW Government's reforms to the parking fine system, which commenced on 1 July 2025, require councils to:
- Attach a parking fine or notification to the vehicle (except in limited circumstances)
- Provide photographic evidence of the offence to Revenue NSW
- Issue fines within seven days of the offence if no notification was attached
- Publicly report data on parking fines issued
These changes aim to improve fairness, consistency, and transparency in the parking fine process across NSW.
Parkes Shire Council will continue to review and monitor the implementation of these reforms and will provide quarterly updates as required.
