Local Environmental Plan Amendments
The Parkes Local Environmental Plan 2012 (PLEP) is a key planning instrument that guides local development in the Parkes Shire. The PLEP includes controls from zoning and land use to environmental protection and heritage.
It may be necessary to amend the PLEP for various reasons such as changes to environmental controls, social and community needs, alterations to adopted controls such as minimum lot sizes or land zoning or may be required to better clarify certain controls. These changes are often informed by detailed studies, masterplans, or community feedback, ensuring that planning decisions are evidence based and forward looking. By updating the PLEP, greater clarity can be provided to landowners, developers, and the broader community about what can be built, how it can be built and where future growth should occur.
A Planning Proposal is required to facilitate any proposed amendment to the PLEP. The Planning Proposal needs to be supported by relevant specialist studies and must demonstrate strategic merit. Any proposed amendments are also required to consult with relevant agencies and the community, enabling the community the opportunity to review the proposed changes and provide input.
The Planning Proposal will also need to obtain support from both the local and state government. The NSW Government’s planning website includes additional resources to assist with the amendment process.
