Local Strategic Planning Statement

The Parkes Local Strategic Planning Statement (LSPS) sets out the 20-year land-use vision for the Parkes Shire. Aligning with other regional plans and development directions, the LSPS emphasises Parkes’ strategic location as a major freight and logistics hub. The LSPS emphasises the need to plan proactively through short- and long-term goals and strategies to ensure development is logical, for this growth by guiding development, infrastructure investment, and environmental management in a coordinated way.  

The LSPS outlines priorities such as supporting community needs through improved services, protecting environmental assets, and ensuring that residential development is well-located and sustainable. The LSPS includes considerations for low, moderate and high development or growth scenarios and a number of short, medium, long and ongoing goals and strategies for the future.  

Overall, the LSPS provides a framework for decision-making that aims to connect Parkes to broader regional and national opportunities, maintain the character and wellbeing of its communities, and guide land use planning in a way that supports long-term prosperity. It sets out clear actions and monitoring processes to ensure progress is tracked and the Shire remains adaptable as conditions change.
