Regional Growth NSW Development Corporation (RGDC) has entered into a project development agreement with Parkes Energy Recovery Pty Ltd (Proponent) to establish an energy-from-waste (EFW) facility within the Parkes Special Activation Precinct (Precinct), which is located west of Parkes.

The NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure has issued the Planning Secretary’s Environmental Assessment Requirements (SEARs) for the proposed Parkes Energy Recovery Facility. The SEARs, along with all other information, are available on the Department’s Portal at www.planningportal.nsw.gov.au/major-projects/projects/parkes-energy-recovery-facility.

At its meeting on 17 February 2026 Council unanimously opposed and formally rejected the proposed Energy-from-Waste facility within the Parkes Shire.

Following this resolution and recognising the significance of the proposal and the level of community interest, Council established the EfW Community Working Party.
