Parkes Shire Housing Strategy

The Parkes Shire Housing Strategy 2021-2041 (PSHS) establishes a long-term plan for the provision of housing across the Shire over the next 20 years in line with the NSW Government’s Local Housing Strategy Guideline the Parkes Local Strategic Planning Statement 2041. The PSHS identifies development opportunities and constraints to identify where, and how, the housing stock across the Shire can grow and evolve to support the needs of a diverse and dynamic community.

A central focus of the strategy is improving housing diversity, affordability, and resilience, while recognising the importance of utility provision, stormwater management, heritage and connected transportation routes. Areas of the Parkes Shire are also constrained due to natural hazards such as bushfire and flood prone land, with the PSHS responding to these constraints.

The 2025 update incorporates revised risk considerations and priority growth areas, predominantly in recognition of the 2022 floods. This update ensures that the PSHS remains responsive to site conditions to assist future development to occur in a safe and logical manner.
