Contracts register

Under Section 27 of the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009 (GIPA Act), Parkes Shire Council is required to maintain a Contracts Register containing details of government contracts valued at, or likely to be valued at, $150,000 or more (including GST).

Contract information must be included in the register within 45 days of the contract becoming effective.

Details of each contract, including a copy of the contract where required, must remain publicly available on the register for at least 20 working days or until all contractual obligations have been fulfilled, whichever is the longer period.

Contract Classifications

The GIPA Act categorises contracts into three classes:

Class 1 Contracts

Contracts valued at, or likely to be valued at, $150,000 or more (including GST). Council is required to record information about these contracts in its Contracts Register.

Class 2 Contracts

Contracts valued at more than $150,000 where:

  • A tender process was not undertaken; or
  • The contract was substantially negotiated with the successful tenderer.

Further information is provided in Section 30 of the GIPA Act.

Class 3 Contracts

Class 2 contracts with a likely value of more than $5 million.

Further information is provided in Section 31 of the GIPA Act.
