Parkes Shire Libraries provide a wide range of online and in-person services and facilities for members, residents and visitors. Click below to find out how you can access services within the Shire.

Library Services and facilities

Public computers

All Parkes Shire Libraries have computers available for free use. All computers have internet access and Microsoft suite (includes Word, Excel and PowerPoint).

Free Wi-Fi

Parkes Shire Libraries provide free internet access through the library's computers or by connecting your device to the library's Wi-Fi.

Printing/scanning

Parkes Shire libraries have facilities to scan items to PDF or an image, allowing you to send them via email.

Photocopying and printing services are available at all libraries, with costs starting at $0.30.

Justice of the Peace (JP)

A Justice of the Peace service is available at Parkes Library.

Prior to your visit, we recommend you call the library on 02 6861 2309 to confirm if a JP will be available to assist.

Meeting Rooms

There are two meeting rooms available for use at Parkes Library

Meeting Room 1:

Maximum capacity of 12 people

$35 per hour fee applies for commercial bookings

Meeting Room 2:

Maximum capacity of 4 people.

$16 per hour fee applies for commercial bookings

Home Library Service

Parkes

Parkes Neighbourhood Central and Parkes Shire Library offers a free fortnightly housebound service to residents of Parkes who are unable to visit the library personally.

The home delivery service provides access to all items held by Parkes Library. Nursing homes, retirement villages and aged care centres can access bulk loan services.

To register for home delivery or volunteer for this service, contact Parkes Neighbourhood Central at 02 6862 3788 or 02 6862 3757.

Trundle

St Vincent de Paul Society Trundle offers a household library service in Trundle. Volunteers can assist you in joining the library and will choose items that suite your interests. Please call 0448 238 640 to register your interest in this service.

Recycle @ your Library

Various oral care products can be recycled, including old toothbrushes, toothpaste tubes and caps, electric toothbrush heads and floss containers. The items are shredded, melted into hard plastic, and remoulded into new products. TerraCycle Colgate Oral Care Brigade, an oral care waste recycling program, is available at Parkes Library.

 Please note: cardboard packaging, electric toothbrush handles and bases are not recyclable through this program.

 

Online Services 

Parkes Shire Library provides free access to many online collections, resources and databases to use from home.

To access these services, you must enter our library card number. You can find your membership number under the barcode on the back of your card.

Online catalogue

Login to Parkes Shire Libraries online services using your library card number and date of birth (DDMMYYYY).

This function allows you to search our online catalogue, reserve tiles and renew your items.

Online Collections

Those with access to Parkes Shire Libraries full and online-only membership have access to several online collections. To access any online collection, you must enter your library card number and date of birth.

BorrowBox

Download the free BorrowBox app to access a wide range of eBooks, eAudiobooks and eMagazines. Borrow up to 6 eAudiobooks and ebooks, plus unlimited eMagazines for 26 days and one renewal.

Indyreads

Indyreads is a free app on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. The app provides access to over 18,000 independent Australian and international titles, classic literature and modern award-winning titles. Indyreads allows you to borrow twenty eBooks and eAudiobooks at a time for 21 days. 

Beamafilm

Beamafilm is a free app providing library members access to various documentaries and independent feature films. The app is available for download on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.

 

Online Databases

Parkes Shire Library full and online-only members have access to various online databases. Log in to the following online databases requires entering your Library card number.

 

NoveList

NoveList is a database by EBSCO to provide customised reading recommendations for borrowers. The database presents fiction, non-fiction and audiobooks with specialised recommendations, reviews, articles and lists to help you pick your next read.

Computer School Training Program

The Computer School is an online computer and technology-based training centre providing diverse tutorials and lessons. The site offers tutorials on topics such as Apple, Androids, MYOB, Microsoft, Adobe, Digital photography, Social media and Cybersafety.

World Book Encyclopedia Online

World Book Online is a verified and trustworthy digital resource that helps information seekers find the content they need at the correct reading level. The site has thousands of informational articles with stunning illustrations, videos, interactive maps, research help, and activities.

Gale Databases

Gale offers a variety of resources for education, lifelong learning, and academic research. Giving access to peer-reviewed articles; full-text magazines, newspapers, and eBooks; primary source documents; and videos or podcasts, Gale puts the right vetted content and tools at your fingertips!

Purchase suggestion

If Parkes' libraries do not stock an item you wish to borrow, you will be offered two options:

  • If the item was released within the last two years, fill out the 'Purchase Suggestion' form below. Our acquisitions team will consider your suggestion for purchase, and we will notify you of the outcome.
  • If the item was released more than two years ago or is not appropriate for the existing collection, you can request may be considered for an Inter-Library Loan. Visit your local library branch to place an inter-library loan request.

Please note that a $5 fee is payable for each item at the requested time.
