He taught at Forbes and Windsor High Schools before returning home to the family farm. He is married to Susan and they have three sons. Early involvement in Rotaract and the Parkes Centenary Committee fostered a genuine interest in the future of Parkes Shire. He was first elected to Parkes Shire Council at the age of 28. He is an active Councillor committed to the progress and development of all centres in the Shire. Ken embraces a regional approach enthusiastically promoting the concept of sustainable communities in rural and regional NSW.

He has chaired the Newell Highway Taskforce since its inception and currently chairs the Country Mayors Association and the Central NSW Joint Organisation Strategic Transport Group. He believes in regional co-operation to achieve the best outcomes, while still promoting all of the Shire of Parkes. Ken has encouraged Parkes Shire Council to remain non-political, considering each issue on its merit and reaching consensus in a harmonious manner where possible.

In the past Ken has always been an active sportsman dedicating much of his time to coaching and officiating cricket and soccer. He is a regular lap swimmer for fitness and enjoys playing a round of golf.

Ken has served on the board of Life Education NSW since 2010 following involvement in the Healthy Harold initiative locally since its inception.
