Our Annual Waste 2 Art community art exhibition invites schools, community groups and individuals to transform rubbish into art and design, in this innovative competition.
The purpose of Waste 2 Art is to encourage everyone to reduce, reuse & recycle, and change our attitudes about the things we throw away and this year's focus theme is The Year of Toys.
CATEGORIES
Primary School
This is open to individuals, groups or classes from primary or preschool. If the entrant is a primary school student or younger then this is the category they will enter.
High School
If the entrant is enrolled in High School then this is the category they will enter. It’s open to individual students, groups of students from various secondary schools, classes or entire schools.
Community
Entrants would be individuals who are considered nonprofessional artists. It’s also open to community groups.
Open
Professional artists enter this category. A professional artist is defined as an individual who may or may not have formal art education but has a history of exhibiting in solo or group exhibitions.
2 D
Poster/Painting/Collage/Drawing etc. This section includes works that are flat or in a relief. Sculptural pieces which hang on the wall could be entered in this section. Poster, painting or drawing may include collage elements in order to comply with selection criteria of using recycled materials. However it could also include rubbings from found objects or using recycled objects to paint, draw or print with. A poster could be a photograph or design work / collage, which draws attention to waste as a resource and promotes recycling.
3 D
Sculpture/Installation etc. Free standing or 3 dimensional works. Includes installations. It can consist of paintings, sculptures, found objects, text etc. All works must package into 1 cubic meter packages at 30kg max per package if not it can be photographed and framed ready to hang or filmed and submitted on a USB.
Functional
This section includes objects that are for practical use. Furniture, tools, homewares, decorative items, clothing, handbags, jewellery etc. This includes items which no longer have a use and have been converted, restored, repaired or refurbished in a creative way that brings a new function to the piece. Any artworks that exceed the size & weight limits can be entered in their specific category as an A3 photograph, framed (not laminated).
