Draft Parkes Shire Open Spaces Strategy

Submissions closing on 24 October 2025, 11:59 PM

Parkes Shire Council is inviting community feedback on the draft Parkes Shire Open Spaces Strategy(PDF, 311MB), now on public exhibition from 15 September to 24 October 2025.

The Parkes Shire Open Spaces Strategy(PDF, 311MB) builds on the Parkes Shire Liveability Strategy(PDF, 12MB) and Plan of Management (POM) Framework.

The draft strategy has been developed with funding support from the NSW Government Resources for Regions program.

The draft Strategy evaluates all open spaces in the main towns of Alectown, Bogan Gate, Cookamidgera, Parkes, Peak Hill, Trundle and Tullamore to arrive at a hierarchy of regional, local, low-scale and redundant open spaces. For regional-scale open spaces, masterplans have been developed that list future improvements for grant funding and / or implementation by Council.

Parkes Shire Council has used the large body of community local data compiled from the Place Score liveability 2023 and MicroMex 2024 surveys to inform the preparation of the draft Parkes Shire Open Spaces Strategy. Direct engagement with key open space stakeholders (sporting user groups and associations) has also been undertaken.

The draft Parkes Shire Open Spaces Strategy will be on public exhibition from 15 September 2025 to 24 October 2025.

The exhibition documents can be viewed at Parkes Shire Council’s Customer Service Centre during normal business hours, or via the links below, separated based on locations.

Everyone is invited to review the draft Parkes Shire Open Spaces Strategy and associated Masterplans and provide written feedback by the exhibition closing date.

For more information on the project, please contact Council’s Engineering Services Department on (02) 6861 2333 or visit Council’s website.
