Why We’re Celebrating

Over the past year, the Light Up Parkes Project has brought our community together through activities like Small Business Workshops, Brightening Our Brand, Shape Your CBD, and the beautiful fairy light installation on Clarinda Street. We’ve been out in the community at places like the NAIDOC Family Fun Day, Homegrown, Southern Cross Care, Currajong Disability Services, Cooke Park, and of course right across Clarinda Street. Listening, learning, and co‑creating ideas for a better town centre. These conversations, ideas, and collaborations, from locals to people supporting us as far away as Europe and America, have all helped shape this moment.

What This Represents

The Light Up Parkes Event is the culmination of this shared journey. It reflects the purpose of the Community Improvement District (CID) Pilot: empowering local people to shape vibrant, welcoming places. At its heart, the CID Pilot is about businesses and the broader community coming together, strengthening our town centre by improving liveability, uplifting identity, and creating spaces where people genuinely want to gather. This event is a celebration of that combined effort, a moment for everyone to come together, enjoy the lights, and experience firsthand what collaboration across our community has helped create.

The Light Up Parkes Project is proudly funded through the NSW Government’s Community Improvement District Pilot Program led by Transport for NSW.
