Create, Drum and Robot Your Way Through Summer with Holiday Program
Published on 16 December 2025
Parkes Shire Council is inviting local teenagers to make the most of the summer holidays with Summer Fun, a high-energy series of FREE workshops and activities designed especially for young people aged 12 to 22.
Running from 20 to 28 January 2026, Summer Fun is grant funded by the NSW Government’s Holiday Break Program and offers a mix of drumming, creativity and hands-on STEAM experiences - all delivered in a welcoming, supportive environment.
The program includes three exciting workshops:
Drumming Session
Led by renowned drumming expert Rob Shannon, participants will learn rhythm, timing and teamwork while creating a powerful group drumming piece.
Gel Print Making
Youth will discover the creative freedom of mono printing with gel plates in a fun, relaxed and friendly environment, under the guidance of local artist Karen Ritchie.
Robo Battles
Participants will design, build and code robots before putting them to the test in head-to-head battles.
Kerryn Jones, Manager Cultural, Education & Library Services at Parkes Shire Council, said the program was designed in direct response to feedback from local young people.
“Summer Fun is all about giving young people opportunities to connect, express themselves and try something new in a safe and supportive environment.
“We’ve listened to what works and what young people actually enjoy, and we’ve combined creativity, music and technology to deliver activities that are fun, inclusive and meaningful - especially for young people living in a rural area.”
Spots are limited, so young people are encouraged to book a free ticket from Friday, 19th December.
