Project Description
To install new solar PV systems supporting Akuna Road and Eugowra Road Pumping Station to offset electricity costs to pump water for the Parkes Shire and significantly reduce emissions by more than 914 tonnes of CO2e.
The project will result in substantial cost savings, current bills are in excess of $1m per annum between billing and LGC’s and save 914 Tonnes of greenhouse gases entering the atmosphere. In 2023, the power cost for these two sites alone was a staggering $1,495,969. Potentially the savings could be even more substantial. Community savings by Council not having to spend so much on power costs of these two pump stations will benefit all ratepayers of Parkes Shire as well as providing a cleaner future for all with the reduced emissions. The project also engages the community with new solar energy and the benefits it can bring.
Parkes Shire Council has secured funding of $1,755,100 from the Federal Government under the Community Energy Upgrades program. The program will co-fund energy efficiency and electrification upgrades for local governments to deliver reduced energy bills and emissions from local government owned and/or operated facilities. The program will contribute to Australia meeting its emission reduction targets of 43 percent by 2030, net zero emissions by 2050, and support 82% renewable electricity generation by 2030. It will also support the Commonwealth-led National Energy Performance Strategy (NEPS).
