Open Makerspace sessions provide the community with an opportunity to create, learn and be part of a network that enjoys making! These casual, self-led sessions are the perfect opportunity to work with peers, share knowledge and use the Makerspace facilities.
In Open Maker sessions, you gain access to a range of technologies, consumables and resources. This includes 3D printing, laser cutting, sewing machines and more. There are different learning resources, guides and tutorials within the space to support your self-led journey. Library staff support you as you enhance your technical and troubleshooting skills, however, our staff’s primary responsibility is to oversee and manage the safety of the Makerspace for public use. Remember, these are self-led sessions, staff will not complete your project for you. The Open Maker sessions are designed for adults and children who would like to create, learn and share. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
Maker workshops work a little differently. The weekly sessions will focus on specific themes and equipment, are age specific with bookings essential.
The monthly Maker workshops are also theme specific but are designed for youth and adults only. Books are essential as numbers are limited.

Open Maker Sessions: 2.30pm – 5pm Tuesday and Wednesday (Library members can drop in anytime between these hours)
Maker Workshops: Thursday 3.30pm – 5pm (bookings essential) (link to booking here)

How to Join?
The first step is to join the Library as this membership includes access to the Makerspace. The second step is to undergo an on-site induction of the facilities.
Throughout the year, various workshops led by experienced facilitators are run in the Makerspace. Please ask about our subscription list or follow us on FB (Marramarra Makerspace Studio) and Humanitix (Parkes Library and Cultural Centre) to hear about these workshops.

To access the Makerspace, participants must:
- Be members of the Parkes Library and Cultural Centre (join here)
- If under the age of 12, be accompanied by an adult and actively supervised
- Complete a Safety Induction and adhere to the Safe Operating Procedures
- Wear shoes and appropriate PPE
- Not use external equipment or tools
- Treat others with respect and courtesy. Staff may ask patrons to leave if their behaviour is deemed unsafe or disruptive. Children without shoes will not be permitted in the Makerspace.
